YLEM (pron. Eye-lem): Primordial substance from which all matter was formed.
Ylem is a musician who creates as part of the music/art collective The Community, which has contributed to underground culture in Perth by providing a platform for artists. His music pushes the envelope and reflects his taste for the emerging future beat sub-genres.
Ylem’s sound is a continuous exploration of synthesizers, recording, sampling, re-sampling and real world sounds spliced and twisted into harmonies and grooves that creates a space inviting listeners to submerge themselves into. After time spent in bands and djing in clubs, Ylem is now steadily focused on taking his production to the stage.
In 2012, Ylem was nominated for ‘Electronic Producer Of The Year’ in the West Australian Music Industry Awards and took out the ‘Song of the Year’ in the Electronic/Dance category for his track, ‘Slew’. This recognition, coupling with regular airplay on Triple J and local/interstate radio, shows Ylem’s production is starting to get the attention of the discerning ear.
Occasionally, he lends a hand with mixdown/mastering duties for his Community comrades, presents Bass Check on RTRFM 92.1, puts on an event, makes music for film/ads or releases other peoples music on his imprint, WattHz Records.

ESKMO [UK / Ninja Tune, Warp]
Brendan Angelides is a San Francisco based electronic music producer who records and performs live as Eskmo. His multi-genre compositions have been featured on influential labels like Warp Records and Planet Mu. While Angelides’ tracks encompass a wide range of electronic styles, he avoids classifications. Bleep.com described his tracks as “Masterfully produced… sophisticated, post-Dilla hip-hop funk”. His last single of 2009 entitled “Let Them Sing” on Mu was met with equal praise and described by sites like Boomkat as “[Putting] Eskmo on his own electronic plateau.”
In the past five years he’s released over a dozen singles and EPs while touring throughout North America and Europe. He’s also remixed works by diverse artists such as Bibio, Spor, STS9, Bear In Heaven and Bar9, to name a few. Angelides also runs the Ancestor label, which issued his “Hypercolor” and “Angus Dei” singles in 2009 to positive reviews from numerous magazines, blogs and tastemakers. Ninja Tune recording artist and film composer Amon Tobin hailed his work as “some of the best production I’ve heard in recent times.”

Hey folks,
Just a quick update on tunes, gigs and headspace.
The Community 8th BDAY was a corker. Cheers to all the folks who came down to make it a success.
Tonight I am supporting Machine Drum, one half of Sepalcure, and Jacques Greene at The Bakery. T’will be quality. I will be joined on stage with Rachael Dease, whom i have been collaborating with lately. Things are travelling along nicely and we are looking at putting some form of release together in the not too distant future. If you haven’t made any plans tonight, come down to the Bakery, there’s a huge local line-up, too.
I have a few tunes forthcoming:
‘Impertinence’ – A remix I did for Killeralien, producer and UK label Gamma Audio.
‘Something for The Pain’ – Coming out on an Australian label – details to come.
‘Dunk’ and ‘Whiskers’ – both forthcoming on a compilation from Melbourne based label, Hopskotch Records.
Panoptican – Usurper Of Modern Medicine remix – coming soon on their EP Turbo Handshake.
There are collaborations in the works as well – with TZR (US), Phonetic System (Aus) and Killeralien (UK)
I’m also writing and compiling tunes for 2 EP’s. One for Paper Chain Records and another for The Community.
…GOOD TIMES.
PS – Mathas and I have a badass tune in pipeline too :)
