April Update

Thursday April 5th, 2012

Hey folks,

Just a quick update on tunes, gigs and headspace.

The Community 8th BDAY was a corker. Cheers to all the folks who came down to make it a success.

Tonight I am supporting Machine Drum, one half of Sepalcure, and Jacques Greene at The Bakery. T’will be quality. I will be joined on stage with Rachael Dease, whom i have been collaborating with lately. Things are travelling along nicely and we are looking at putting some form of release together in the not too distant future. If you haven’t made any plans tonight, come down to the Bakery, there’s a huge local line-up, too.

I have a  few tunes forthcoming:

‘Impertinence’ – A remix I did for Killeralien, producer and UK label Gamma Audio.

‘Something for The Pain’ – Coming out on an Australian label – details to come.

‘Dunk’ and ‘Whiskers’ – both forthcoming on a compilation from Melbourne based label, Hopskotch Records.

Panoptican – Usurper Of Modern Medicine remix – coming soon on their EP Turbo Handshake.

There are collaborations in the works as well – with TZR (US), Phonetic System (Aus) and Killeralien (UK)

I’m also writing and compiling tunes for 2 EP’s. One for Paper Chain Records and another for The Community.

…GOOD TIMES.

PS – Mathas and I have a badass tune in pipeline too :)

Free Oldies

Thursday January 19th, 2012

Hey peeps,

I have been going through my old hardrives and came across a bunch of tunes. Some i’d forgotten that i actually made, but there’s some vibes on these tracks that i think are worth sharing. Unfortunately, I dont have the original project file for them as they were on a laptop which died a sudden and drastic death… or else i’d probably go back and rework/remix or takes parts from them or whatevs… These tunes were the fortunate ones in making it off that laptop!

Anyway, checkout the player to cop some free dl’s. Hope y’all enjoy!

A minute with…

Monday July 11th, 2011

Thanks to the good folk over at Life is Noise for the lil interview…

In the latest edition in our series of interviews with Perth artists, we spend a minute with Ylem and ask him what’s happening…

Describe your music in five words or less.
Musical adventures into Planet Bass

What’s going on right now in the world of Ylem?
Lots! I am currently writing tracks for two EPs to be released on UK labels Gamma Audio and AltoSync, focusing on the deep/techy side of dubstep. I am also working on tunes for another LP, to be released by the end of the year via The Community.

I am mixing down Diger Rokwell’s new release, Sri Diger and mastering Delirious’ album, who is a new edition to the roster of The Community artists.

I also have plans to put out some more releases on my digi-label, WattHz Records. So there’s plenty to keep me busy, which is how I like it.

What are the worst and best gigs you’ve ever played and why?
Worst: Probably some of the first few I played with The Community when I was just starting to play out some of my own tunes.

Best: Hmm, well not because of my personal performance, but I used to play in a band in 2006 and we scored a slot at the Big Day Out. That was pretty cool.

Tell us something about your music that we might not know.
In an advertisement commissioned by the City of Perth, a dubstep track of mine was used in a campaign against binge drinking. It was played on the Northbridge Piazza screen throughout last summer.

You’re putting together your perfect local gig? Who would you get to play, why and where? Feel free to include acts/DJs/bands/venues that no longer exist.
The Community & Friends Festival featuring the plethora of local producers playing their own beats in a remote hills location. For me, the best gigs come down to the vibe; good people and good music.

YLEM – Black Sunday

Tuesday March 15th, 2011

Heya all,

As some of you may know, my parents lost their house in the Black Sunday Bushfires in Roleystone. Consequently, being in that head space has not been conducive to any creativity. But I am now feeling motivated to get in the studio and start pushing out some more music. I would like to thank everyone that has shown support over the past month or so, the sheer amount of messages do not go unnoticed even if I have been unable to respond to all of them. I would especially like to thank all The Community comrades and in particular Diger Rokwell – who has coordinated the efforts of many to make this Friday’s gig happen. So if you don’t know,  this Friday at The Bakery is The Black Sunday Fundraiser. It features many of The Community musicians and more. All proceeds go to the bushfire victims – so get down and support a worthy cause.

Please check the event page here http://thecommunity.com.au/events/black-sunday-fundraiser-bakery-friday-1803

Peace and bass
