Beats, rhymes & LP stuff

Hey there peeps…
Letting ya’s know the mix-down to the album has been finished with the help of the blessed ears of Sibalance…I miss our sessions already! So now its sittin with another set of the blessed ears owned by Ylem to sort out the master…the reason?
Well a lot of the samples I dig in come from North African music from the 30′s through to the 60′s and no shit…they screech belch and whistle like nothin else! That’s what I love about theses sounds, they’ve been dubbed and re-dubbed throughout the ages and have their own unique blend of crackle and fuzz. A visceral assault on the senses! Not to mention most were also mic recorded from old 7″ vinyl, tapes and various 8 tracks. Yeah, hip hop baby!
So I will be looking forward to getting the artwork together and pressing it to disc…and celebrating some with these wonderful Community cats very soon! ;)
One love, one nation…past to pasture…

I got sent this pic today from Fitzroy, its Zulu Nation’s (yes like thee Zulu Nation, the melbourne arm) calling card..
Lets hope Perth gets the balls to switch its paintings regularly too!

NZ is hip hop a bangin!

Wednesday May 4th, 2011

Allo again,

Thought I’d tell you a lil bit about NZ and particularly Auckland hip hop as I’ve just returned!
In short, it’s quite beautiful, quite ol school, all soulful, very jazz…with a major cosmopolitan feel. I hung out in a joint called Rakkinos. This place has jazz and soul written all over it. They got graphs of J Dee, Pete Rock, Bomb Squad etc.. painted on vinyl hangin up on the walls. Wood everywhere. The joint is frequented by many people from all walks of life as it is fairly common that most NZ’ers have accepted a lil bit of hip hop in their lives…and credit where due, it’s quite nicely presented to them to appreciate. It was amazing to see so many people dancing and singing to underground hip hop in so many venues. I got to jam out with some local jazz outfits and was privileged to get a special screening of Homebrew’s hilarious new film clip…YouTube Preview Image …all i’m sayin is i was drinking Chatreus (or however it’s spelt, that stuff’s freakin rocket fuel man) with them demons at 4am! Yep, wasn’t pretty
So I did bandy about the community’s website and talked heaps about the producers this way with a heap of pride. Overall, I was celebrating all the worldly joys that bind us globally in this thing we call hip hop…and New Zealand is soooooo hip hop.
Big shout out’s go to Ty, Andy, MC J Dubs, Home Brew, all the staff at Rakkinos, the boys at Conch Records, the peeps at Ponsonby Social Club…and to all those beautiful Maori, Tonga, and Samoa cats out there that gave me oh so much love…i’ll never ever ever forget you or your kindness and for taking the time out to educate meeee in your special way. One love.

tripl M U M update… album coming soon

Thursday December 16th, 2010

Howdy and salam alaykum peeps

I’ve been quiet, and for that I’m sorry…but i assure you all that I’ve been listening and attending plenty of Community gigs, as well as bumpin and grindin to the releases from Ylem and Arms and Diger, as I’m sure you all are too. Lotsa props fella’s, lovin the radio credits!

For the most part of this year I’ve spent writing an album. So far it looks like its gonna have 8 or 9 tracks, currently stored as raw cuts…now comes the tedious part of preparing them for release…of course, all production will be done in house with the help of the Community.

In the next couple of weeks i hope to be updating my soundcloud with a couple of ditties, snippets of some ancient african shit to give you all a taste of what to expect. Then will come the release!

So to all, I love you and look forward to bashing more beats with you! X
