The Empty Cup is a producer and emcee. Having performed with The Typhoons, supporting acts such as Lyrics Born and The Streets, and at festivals such as Parklife and Good Vibrations, he is a veteran of the Perth scene. 2010 brought the emergence of The Empty Cup as a solo entity, and over the past year he has played an integral part in continuing to evolve the Perth hip hop scene. A regular host for the highly acclaimed co-lab jam band, staple support for high profile international artists such as Akil (from Jurassic 5 fame) or even Sade, and a hard working recording artist who already has “The Mixtape” under his belt and a live album in the works for March 2012.
“The Mixtape” features production from international artists Kev Brown, Aeon, OneLove, Apollo Brown, Beat-Maker-Beat and Prince Paul. Drawing upon the rich pool of new wave hip hop artists in Perth, The Empty Cup has created an intricate tapestry of lyric and harmony. Other collaborating emcees, include Mathas, Pronto, Lewis Galaga, Marksman, Ol’Wright, ASAP, Stats and Slackjaw.

Well I’m currently working on an EP, featuring the likes of Able and Mathas, and you can catch a sneak peak of some of the unfinished work by checking the Soundcloud player on this page!
I’d previously done some fairly intense instrumental music, so this release is really about ‘feel’. All the beats that are slated for this EP are setting up the right textures and rhythmic structures for the style of rapping that I’m aiming for. The strings are there because, well I love strings, and it’s a nice contrast to writing for a horn section all the time (Typhoons I’m looking at you :P).
