The Community

I’m going to be vising Perth really soon for a weeks visit, from the 29th of August, where I will be playing a show put on by Chris (The man behind the ‘Dead Weight’ events and more) Really looking forward to catching up with the Perth peeps and relaxing for a minute!

I’ve recently made my debut in Poster design, which is something I aim to pursue a little further here and here. Initially designing my own posters for my own events, but with the hope of moving on to doing posters for other peoples events once I get a bit more practice in. As long as I’ve been putting on events Matt Beaton has been the guy behind the posters, and he does an amazing job, so i recommend him to anyone after posters! Quick turn-around too. For this weeks ‘Comfy Beats’, I have basically edited the layout/text/images in the Photoshop file that Matt created for the event, but as I grow more adventurous I’ll be creating posters from scratch. This is an exciting thing for me and something I’ve wanted to do for a while but never really gave myself a chance. One more step forward to entirely self-sufficient events.

Another thing I’ve found doing the weekly ‘Comfy Beats’ (apart from how time and effort consuming it is) Is that I’m becoming noticeably better at promoting and running the nights, getting my shit more organized eg. Quicker at setting up the gear, better set transitions between artists, getting more people on the mailing list, creating media lists and online forums lists..every week my database grows, even as each week I meet new people, book new DJ’s…Every week new artists and punters are exposed to the night, gradually everything will sort itself out.

So yes. I’ve been mad busy lately, playing a bunch of shows around Melbourne and collaborating with some great singers also! Some of these vocalists include Arowe, Rachael Berry and soon Ginger. MC Manix and I have agreed to do an EP together also, Manix is a fresh Melbourne rapper, one of the best in my eyes..and a good dude to practice freestyling with.

So long story short I’m keeping busy, and things are rolling…pumped for Samiyam in September and Japan in October!
