Naik is a musician and filmmaker from Perth Western Australia.

Naik creates creates psychedelic, progressive and unique experiments in electronic music. His debut album In the Shadow of Thunder Mountain was released in 2009 and has received critical acclaim throughout Australia. Naik’s sound draws inspiration from an array of sources, delving heavily into psych-rock, hip-hop, electronic music, funk, soul and jazz. Naik has received 4 Perth Dance Music Award nominations and 4 WAMi (West Australian Music Industry) Award nominations over the past 2 years.

Naik’s live show combines the best of electronic music performance and traditional band based instrumentation. The show faithfully reproduces the detail of Naik’s music but also leaves plenty of room for improvisation and embellishment via live instruments and Naik’s customised electronic setup. The live show traditionally features Naik on guitar, controllers and FX, Kit Pop on the decks as well as live drums and percussion. The show was voted ‘best Australian performance of the year’ by the members only writers of drum media. Naik has also been nominated for best live act at the Perth Dance Music Awards twice. Naik has performed at the Parklife, Future Music, Summadayze, Breakfest, Low:Fi and Origin Festivals and supported the likes of Ratatat, Tricky, Pharoahe Monch, Gaslamp Killer, The Slew, Clark, and Dexter.

As a filmmaker Naik has produced WAMi award winning music videos for the likes of Birds of Tokyo and Downsyde. Naik also recently directed Kito & Reija Lee’s ‘On The Jam’ music video for Mad Decent and has directed music videos for local artists such as Eleventh He Reaches London. Naik is also an animator and VFX artist, his menu design and creative direction for Cut & Paste DVD magazine helped lead the publication to winning the ‘best cross platform media’ award at the WA Screen Awards 3 times. Naik has also produced commercials for Perth’s leading agencies and applied his editing and visual effects skills to award winning short and feature films.

Naik is currently an artist in residence at the centre for interdisciplinary arts in Western Australia where he is developing his new audio/ visual show.

Naik is currently working on a new album and an audio/ visual show to accompany it. He is also working on a number of collaborative projects with some of Perth’s most talented vocalists.
