Born and raised between London, Coventry, Nigeria and Dominica, Ghostpoet (real name Obaro Ejimiwethe) started his career as an MC, appearing first on the now infamous series of mix-tapes compiled by Rough Trade pop weirdoes Micachu & The Shapes. By the release of his first EP proper (‘The Sound Of Strangers’) Obaro had already won over BBC 1′s foremost taste maker Gilles Peterson with a handful of off-kilter, heart wrenching electronic delights, blessed with his rambling & all together on-point musings on modern day life.

Now signed to Peterson’s renown Brownswood label with the release of his debut album ‘Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam’ and recently nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize for Album of the Year, he sits among the leaders of the UK’s thriving independent music scene with the likes of Adelle, Katy B and fellow innovator James Blake.

Ghostpoet’s rise to prominence has been swift, but armed with his raw tales of everyday life, we’re only at the tip of the iceberg for what this gifted storyteller has to give. The northern Summer brought a live dates at every forward thinking festival in Europe, his dizzying sets at both Sonar and The Big Chill cementing Ghostpoet’s reputation as not just a hyper talented bedroom producer, but an incredible live act to boot.

Heralding a new voice in street poetry, Ghostpoet travels with a 3 piece band to Australia this October to perform a very special show at The Bakery in Perth. Joining him in Perth will be Community hip-hop head Mathas, along side resident DJs from the {move} and Don’t Sleep collectives!
