Bio

David Vincent Smith or DVS, is a performance poet, emcee, screenwriter and film director from Perth. He is the current Western Australian Poetry Slam Champion (2010), WA Poetry Festival Poetry Slam Champ (2011) and has performed Poetry to audiences of more than 400 people at the Sydney Theatre Company.

He believes that in life to survive we need food, water, shelter, and story telling. Communication is existence and luckily in our profession the resource ‘words’ are free.

In 2010 he was flown to Sydney where the TV Show Pilot ‘Southern Cross’ his production company produced wrote on racism won MTV’s National Viewers Choice award for the Optus180 project. He was then flown back earlier this year for his new drama ‘Family Tree’ which was recognised nationally again by MTV. So far in 2011 his crew has received three development grants for future film work and currently hustling away to seem through to fruition.

In 2011 he was invited to Indonesia as a panelist and teacher of performance poetry and scriptwriting. He also hosted the first Poetry Slam for the Bali Emerging Writer’s Festival.

Music, Slam, Film… but No Space Travel Yet….

Monday September 5th, 2011

Hey fam, update city…

Lots of things have been happening and sleep, space travel, and deep sea diving ain’t it!

Myself and Silence continue to work on our project with some tracks now laid down and more in the works.

Last night I competed in the WA Poetry Festival Poetry Slam and just beat the talented Kaitlyn Plyley at the finish line to win the comp. It was a great night with loads if impressive performers. Heats for the nationals are coming soon!

Film wise, everything has been going crazy we’re in the final stages of completing our latest film before sending it Melbourne this week, we’ve just released a brand new music video and currently cutting Hayley Beth’s clip, with many more in various stages of production.

I’ll keep you posted about the project with Silence but at this stage I’m going to hold off releasing any tracks at this stage but I can show you a sneaky preview of some things if you ask nicely.

Peace Perth Community

Update: writing. film. music.

Friday July 8th, 2011

Hey people.

A quick update on what’s been going on:

I’ve just received funding to Produce a short quirky/drama film, Eliza written and directed by Lauren Brunswick. I’ve also received funding via Screenwest to develop and write my TV Show Family Tree. This is all very exciting.

We(Seventh Continent) will be releasing a brand new music video soon which I think is going to blow your minds, I’m very proud of it and we begin work on a couple more this week.

Currently in music, I’m producing the beat for a track on Kadyelle’s new album and creating the music video also. I’m currently still writing and working on my own album and creating some exciting results.

And I’ll leave you with an album I’ve been bumping a lot:
