Bio

collage guerilla and beat tourist:

Diger Rokwell and YLEM Album Launches on 27th November at The Bakery.

Diger Rokwell is the chameleon of Perth creative scene. As co-founder of influential crew The Community. His three self-released albums Digstrumentals, The Earthhead and Digerbodia are an intercultural mix of global sounds, spoken word, heavy drums, driving bass, and spaced out sonics and have already garnered him rave reviews and earned him a reputation as Perth’s most prolific beat music producer.

Diger Rokwell’s live show consists of his production backed by live drums and
supported by a rotating cast of Perth’s best up-and-coming vocal talent including
Mathas, Able and ex-Melbournite Nick Sweepah. The last few years have seen Diger Rokwell share the stage with the likes of People Under the Stairs, Elf Tranzporter, Curse ov Dialekt, Low Budget, Razhel and The Typhoons playing festivals such as Parklife, Low:Fi, Radiothon Opening Party, Seriously Sound System, Fremantle Music Winter Festival, and Vibes on a Summer’s Day.

2010 is a massive year for Diger Rokwell with three releases in the pipelines. With Digerbodia already playing to a sold out show at The Bird and receiving constant airplay on various stations around the country. Diger plans to extend his discography with ‘We are all related’ in late November 2010 a multi-instrumentation work of new beats and snippets from Iran, Africa, Pakistan and India just to name a few. Add to that ‘Mud Heavy Gaia’ a free downloadable psychedelic remix release of psyched out songs from around the world available online in the summer of 2010. Diger Rokwell has already started preparing for his new beat tourism projects as follow ups to Digerbodia. Beat tapes called Digernesia (beats from Indonesia) and Sri Diger (Sri Lanka) are in developmental stages.

Diger also produces visual works of various descriptions: collage, illustration, murals, pastes up and low budget photography. Diger has designed various flyers for Community and Flowlab events. Diger prides himself on original head replacement projects, semi-social commentary, childish simple sketches, recontextualisations and the creation of the earth head bike riders used as The Community’s emblem.

Recently Diger has raised over $1,000 for Cambodian Landmine Victims, released his own line of shirts and has continued to exhibit visual work at The Moon Exhibits series. Diger is also a DJ who regularly plays at The Manor and other spots using his APC40 creating his own band of cut and run mash ups and looped out mixes. Diger is also co-host of Co Lab displaying his unique style of ‘mumble skat’ and multi instrumentation.

To Diger ‘The Community’ is all support for each other, openess to new ideas, doing not saying and creativity that could change the world in which we live.
