Diger Rokwell (pron. Digger Rockwell) is the chameleon of Perth creative scene. As co-founder of influential crew The Community, Dig has aided the growth of independent electronic music in Perth. His five self-released albums Digstrumentals, The Earthhead, Digerbodia, We Are All Related and Sri Diger are an intercultural mix of ethnic sounds, field recordings, spoken word, heavy drums, driving bass and psyched out sonics with context and narrative.
Diger Rokwell’s live show consists of his production played live with upside down guitars and keys. Dig Rokwell has supported the likes of Bonobo, DJ Krush, Balam Acab, Pond, Daedalus, Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer, Harmonic 313, DJ Vadim, People Under the Stairs and Rahzel. Plus played a swag of festivals such as Parklife, Low:Fi, Radiothon Opening Party, Seriously Sound System, Fremantle Music Winter Festival, and Cut and Paste Microfestival and Collaboration shows.
Diger also produces visual works of various descriptions: collage, illustration, murals, pastes up and low budget photography. Dig has designed various flyers for Community events. Dig prides himself on original head replacement projects, semi-social commentary, childish simple sketches, recontextualisations and the creation of the The Community’s logo.
Diger is also a DJ who is a collector of all kinds of musical genres. Dig has also created and coordinated various urban art murals around the Perth area, the RTRFM building and Kember Collective building to name a few. Diger Rokwell also co-hosts ‘Golden Apples of the Sun’ on RTRFM 92.1 in Perth.
Diger Rokwell has been nominated for 2011 WAMI awards for ‘Best Electronic Artist’ and ‘Best Live Electronic Performance’ alongside Naik, Tomas Ford, Shockone and Tim & Jean.
Diger plans to release ‘Build My’ in mid 2012 and also a project with Felicity Groom called ‘New Parts’ late 2012. With psychedelic hip hop EP and a beat tourism trip ‘Indigernesia’ to Indonesia in his sights also.
