The 2 times WAMI nominated, Diger Rokwell is the chameleon of Perth creative scene. As co-founder of influential crew The Community, Diger has aided the growth of independent electronic music in Perth. His five self-released albums Digstrumentals, The Earthhead, Digerbodia, We Are All Related and Sri Diger are an intercultural mix of global sounds, field recordings, spoken word, heavy drums, driving bass and spaced out sonics with context and narrative.
Diger Rokwell’s live show consists of his production played live or backed by live drums and instruments. Diger Rokwell has supported with the likes of Pond, Daedalus, Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer, Harmonic 313, DJ Vadim, People Under the Stairs, Elf Tranzporter, Curse ov Dialekt, Low Budget, Seth Sentry and Rahzel. Plus played a swag of festivals such as Parklife, Low:Fi, Radiothon Opening Party, Seriously Sound System, Fremantle Music Winter Festival, and the Cut and Paste Microfestival.
Diger also produces visual works of various descriptions: collage, illustration, murals, pastes up and low budget photography. Diger has designed various flyers for Community events. Diger prides himself on original head replacement projects, semi-social commentary, childish simple sketches, recontextualisations and the creation of the The Community’s logo.
Diger has raised over $1,000 for Cambodian Landmine Victims, $9,000 for Jamboree for Jocelyn, $1,500 for Black Sunday bushfire victims and $1,000 for Sri Lankan Land mine victims recently.
Diger is also a DJ who is a collector of all kinds of musical genres. Diger has also created and coordinated various urban art murals around the Perth area, the RTRFM building and Kember Collective building to name a few.
Diger Rokwell also hosts shows ‘All City’ and ‘Golden Apples of the Sun’ on RTRFM 92.1 in Perth.
Diger Rokwell has been nominated for 2011 WAMI awards for ‘Best Electronic Artist’ and ‘Best Live Electronic Performance’ alongside Naik, Tomas Ford, Shockone and Tim & Jean.
Diger plans to release the ‘Build Skies’ EP in early 2012 and also a project with Felicity Groom called ‘New Parts’ mid 2012.
