Arms in Motion

Arms in Motion

Bio

There is always someone who gets coined as “the DJ’s DJ” or “the producer’s producer” – someone who isn’t afraid to bring something new or innovative to the table. Arms is that kind of guy, a swiss army knife of beats. With 7 years of collecting music, equipment and technique…

Appearing on stages and festivals with all sorts of cats in the underground scene from home and abroad, Arms In Motion has honed his turntable skills and track selection down to a fine art, tailored to suit the head-nodding-appreciators and the party-goers alike. Don’t expect to relax around the PA system when he takes the stage, you might be taken on a journey to realms of beats you have never heard.

Released in December 2010 was his debut album “Ziggurat” – an eclectic mix of hip-hop and electronica, featuring some of Perth’s finest talent. Ziggurat was very much a tying up of loose ends and will herald a fresh start for AIM’s journey into music production. Expect much more from him in the near future!

A long time member and collaborator with The Community, AIM is also one part of Perth hip-hop show-stoppers “The Stoops” and has been known to perform live with Mathas, The Empty Cup and others.

Mid-year update

Monday July 25th, 2011

What’s good people? Just thought I’d share a few thoughts and goings-on.

First of all congratulations to my brother Adrian and his wonderful wife Natasha on their wedding in Italy. It was an amazing occasion, a beautiful setting and a magical evening. So good to see all of my EU family over there and enjoy the sights and culture of the Amalfi Coast. Not to mention, catching up with my main man Arran (Delta Triangle) in Berlin for my birthday, albeit having the flu. We caught Amon Tobin’s I:SAM show live – an amazing spectacle of sound design, visual engineering and stage design. Also saw Jehst launch his new album at Fabric in London. June was a great month for me.

Recently I’ve been helping fellow Stoops member Roc Walla compile a mix-tape for his design jawn Treehouse Collective (www.treehousecollective.com.au) – It will feature a broad range of talent from across Australia as well as many Community artists. I’ve been listening to the tracks a lot and they are all quality. It will be released as a download, album style… with a bonus mix by myself. Stay tuned for more about that! Here’s some artwork in the mean time.

As for my own work I have been piecing my equipment back together since I moved house at the start of the year, I had to buy a new soundcard to get my operations back under way. I picked up a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and it’s been great, despite it only utilizing a firewire connection, which unfortunately is becoming obsolete rather quickly. Looks like soon we’ll be rocking USB 3.0 interfaces, but knowing how fast audio tech moves the integration is still a long way off!

I plan on releasing a free EP some time before the end of the year, which will be mainly instrumental. Plans for another album are floating around in my head, the next offering will be heavily trip-hop influenced and I’m hoping to work with bands to lay down the instruments then remix them. That’s the plan anyway. My first album Ziggurat is available for download at armsinmoton.bandcamp.com (free for individual tracks or $5 if you want to donate and grab the whole album) and hard copies are available at Planet Video & Fat Shan records in Perth and Wax Museum in Melbourne. If you catch me out and about I’ll give you a CD for free!

See you guys this weekend for the Sri Diger & Dust Moats album launch at the Bird! HUGE!

Peace out for now! AIM.

Up and coming

Wednesday April 20th, 2011

Another serious gap between my Community blog updates. Well I updated my information in the bio section to better reflect things and I will be re-working my soundcloud soon at least!

Things have been busy with myself and the group I’m currently performing with The Stoops. We will have out own space up here on the Community site hopefully some time soon! If you want to check out The Stoops music hit up http://thestoops.bandcamp.com for some quality forward-thinking hip-hop music straight out of Perth. Man I hate plugging stuff! I have another small release planned of my own stuff but that is under wraps for now. Oh, I got my bandcamp site up and running if you want to check out http://armsinmotion.bandcamp.com you can get my album for $5 or if you want to do a sneaky and download each track on it’s own I have a “name your price” thing set up so you can just enter 0.

Also stay tuned for a new mix that I’ll be dropping for the Deadweight boys. That should be an interesting mash of stuff from all over the shop, boom!

Until next time!

ps. Check out GDP’s new album ‘Useless Eaters’ featuring the homies DOS4GW and The Empty Cup’s production – also some from Melbourne’s best underground beat terrorist AOI. http://runforcoverrecords.bandcamp.com/album/useless-eaters (man, bandcamp is killing it right now.)

Still kicking it like Bruce Lee…

Thursday October 7th, 2010

Wow, I updated last in June? That’s pretty terrible of me…

Well, I have been in the process of rendering audio stems and starting to master them (being my tracks) with A.PT – a fellow beat-maker and friend of The Community. If everything goes according to plan, my album will be ready (also hopefully pressed) by the end of this month, giving me some time to organise for the album LAUNCH! That’s right, there will be not one, or two, but three album launches scheduled for the 27th of november at The Bakery. Wow! Comunity in full effect!

I’ve also donned a new alias – Crypto. I plan on releasing purely glitch-hop through this name, and have a 5 track EP planned after my album. Other things in the works include a 2-hour long (woah) hip-hop mixtape where I will try and compile all of my favourite material and influences, plus another mix of lo-fi/downbeat type material that I have been digging lately. Time to get busy! Most of this stuff will be available for free on the web via this website, facebook, soundcloud et al.

Gig wise I have been having fun playing some ableton sets at The Bird, my regular spot at the Hideout  Leederville on Friday’s, plus I’ve been performing with The Stoops (aka Stoop Fresh.) It feels like it may be a permanent position, it’s been a lot of fun playing with these talented chaps! We will be performing at the WAMI showcase next Wednesday the 13th of Oct and also at Blog Hunters (The Bird) On Thursday the 14th. Also now that Maxy Bills is back in town, he has taken over duties running the Velvet Lounge gigs first Saturday of every month, where I will also be playing regularly. Pow!

Peace for now! Arms.

ps. I started setting up a YouTube channel. It’s a good platform to get things heard/seen despite the huge amounts of BS that it generates. http://www.youtube.com/armsinmotion

Also this guy is dope.

Ziggurat of beats

Friday June 25th, 2010

What it is folks! First up huge thanks to Steve from ololo for putting together this site and Mathas for making it pretty. So what have I been up to apart from procrastinating? Well, my album… is coming along and should be ready by August. Let’s say, definitely ready by then. Making music is a a very fun and rewarding process, although giving birth is harder than the creation. For some reason I am always hesitant to finish/publish things I have worked on, I’m going to make that change once I have finished up this debut album and release a lot more music from here on in. I’m kind of nervous about the whole thing, I’m my worst critic, but enough about that!

Have a listen to my soundcloud player up in the corner, there’s a new beat up which I remixed for The Empty Cup, who is conveniently located a few rooms away from me. He had the parts recorded for this track without the drums so I offered to program them in and do my own take on a finished version of the beat. I’m really happy with the way it turned out. Moby Dick…

Also to celebrate the site launch, here’s a teaser of my album artwork done by the very talented Ryan Boserio from Last Chance Studios. The album will be called Ziggurat, makes the title of this news post seem a bit less confusing.

Still, if you REALLY want to celebrate the site launch. Get on down to The Bird (William st Northbridge) this Saturday for the official launch party.

I’ll see all of you fine folks around the way!
