2011 was a great year and I’m looking forward to what this year entails…

Some highlights for me this year were..

Travelling/Hanging out and Touring Europe/KL

Supporting DJ Krush to a packed crowd, plus a bunch of other great gigs

Revamping my live set, and finally converting to the Macbook world

Changed my name for most projects to Able8

Writing new tunes with overseas artists like Black Cracker, Benny Diction, Beit Nun and MC Points

Expanding Uncomfortable Beats from a one-man operation, into a small team of awesome people

I also managed to finish a remix for Wermonster (Berlin) by Christmas and that should be released soon, and a track I did with Black Cracker (NYC) is hopefully being released for free with VICE Magazine (US) as an exlusive.. So I’m fairly excited for that!

Only a bit over one week left till I jet off to Kuala Lumpur, and around Europe.

Pretty excited/nervous!

I seem have taken on a bit too much of a workload, but this is my planned week.

Tonight I record Syreneyiscreamy on a new track for my upcoming EP, then later on I play at the newly re-opened Laundy Bar for  AOI+MR.DNA’s Homecoming which I am really looking forward to! Playing second last at 1:30 and have some new tracks in the set! Then tomorrow night it’s straight onto Space Walk , at Horse Bazaar. Pushing the future soundssss. On Sunday me and Manix finish recording the vocals for our single ‘Day Dreamers’, also I will be finalizing the Uncomfortable Beats EP I have been putting together, for a launch in conjunction with FreeTheBeats . Hopefully I can get my 3-4 track EP done in time also for the event too. On Monday night me and MANIX perform at the launch night of Lyricist Lounge , which should also be massive! TuesdayI record my vocals for GHOSTSOUL , for a song upcoming on his album.  Hopefully I can also organize the releases to be printed around Tuesday as well. Over Wednesday and Thursday I have 2-3 Remixes to finish, and will submit a track to Free The Beats for their debut limited vinyl release.  Also I will attempt a rough mix of upcoming AXOLOTL single B-side ‘In The Beginning’. I will also meet up with band member Dustin Mclean to discuss how he will cue the beats live, so they can still perform whilst I’m away. Come Friday I will launch/run/play Uncomfortable Beats/Free The Beats release party at Gypsy Bar, Fitzroy. Somewhere in between there I will pack my stuff up for Sundays departure to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Hectic times indeed.

New things…

1. Got a beat on this compilation CD, and have been asked to contribute to the next volume also. Click the image to be directed to the webpage. Got a chance to meet the man who put it together (Dan) while he was visiting Melbourne, top bloke. The art on the cover is by Fibs. It’s a great listen if you can get your hands one of the 100 limited copies, otherwise stream from the site.

2. Performance-wise, rather than pushing Serato Scratch Live to It’s extreme I have adapted to Ableton Live now for my performances, which is much more flexible and fun. I played my first full set in Ableton at Barbecued Beats, an event I ran at Bar Open which involved live graffiti, a barbecue, and live beats. I will still use Serato for DJ sets as it is more on the fly and sets require less preparation.

3. I’m planning to travel in September to Malaysia, then around Europe, travelling and playing shows. So far I have booked my first show in KL. I’m very excited! I’d like to hear from anyone who has some good contacts. I’m pushing the wonky hip-hop, glitch-hop sounds.

Once again, I have been a little slack on the Community updates, but things have been very busy.

EVENTS

I have started a new blog for my Uncomfortable Beats nights (www.UncomfortableBeats.com) which I will try to regularly update with recordings, interviews, photos and other little bits.The night is continuing to grow, and I’m happy with It’s progress. Meanwhile, Comfortable Shorts (www.ComfortableShorts.com) has also been running fairly steady also. In a couple of weeks I am throwing an event at Bar Open for my birthday, called Barbecued Beats. It will feature a BBQ, Live Beats and Live Graffiti…Should be fun!  The poster character was drawn by my house mate Elghosto, and  I designed the poster around it.

GIGS

I spent a week in Perth recently where I played at Cottonmouth, My Beat Is Broken, Co-Lab, and Tomas Ford/Injured Ninja Video Launch night at The Bakery. It was refreshing being back amongst the Perth scene, and listening to how much everyone had progressed as artists! Once I landed back in Melb it was straight back to more gigs, including some Axolotl shows with Ella Thompson and Dustin Mclean (Keys).

MUSIC WRITING/STUDIO

writing-wise, Manix and I have been making some pretty good progress on our Album, which is shaping up! The new tracks are sounding much tighter lyrically, and I’m pretty excited for it! Besides that I’ve been messing with a couple of new beats, and slowly writing lyrics to a beat from Wisdom 2th. Today I acquired a Roland synth JV1010 synth for $74 on Ebay (Cheeeap), which I am keen to test out tomorrow! It also came with the Hip Hop expansion board which I am yet to hear.

Anyway I’m falling asleep at the Keyboard..

Hello Earthlings…

So here’s a couple quick mentions.

Glitch This, in association with Flow Lab (myself) and a bunch of other awesome cats are putting on a show for Heyoka (US). He is a glitchoppy producer with some sweeet tunes. This will be my first larger endeavor as far as dealing with international artists and helping look after things on a larger scale. It’s going to be a sick night. Also I am throwing another “Uncomfortable Beats” event at Bar Open upstairs. This one is jam packed full of some of my favorite Melbourne producers…Though there are so many more I wish I could fit in, I am sure there will be a next time! If the night goes as well as the first did, I will be given the opportunity to throw monthly parties there…fingers crossed! I don’t see how this night could possibly fail though.

Apart from that I’ve been busy writing beats for Ella Thompson, who is an extremely talented local singer/songwriter. We are doing a residency with band at The Evelyn hotel every Wednesday in February. I’m excited but also nervous, as I’ve got a lot of new beats to write for it, and playing them live with band might possibly prove a struggle.
